Octavians at Volkshaus Jena: Celebrating 20 Years

The renowned a cappella ensemble Octavians is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a festive jubilee concert in their hometown. On Sunday, October 18, 2026, these exceptional singers will transform the historic Volkshaus Jena into a soundscape filled with vocal diversity.

From the Jena Boys’ Choir to International Stages

The success story of the Octavians began in 2006 in the heart of Thuringia: emerging from the ranks of the traditional boys’ choir of the Jena Philharmonic, a group of dedicated young singers joined forces to explore the world of pure vocal music without instrumental accompaniment. What started as an enthusiastic youth project has evolved over two decades into one of the most awarded ensembles in the German vocal scene.

With multiple first prizes at prestigious competitions, including the Federal Vocal Competition, international a cappella festivals, and numerous tours both at home and abroad, the musicians have earned a firm place in the hearts of culture-loving audiences. Despite their national renown, the singers have remained loyal to their roots and are using their twentieth anniversary for a very special homecoming performance in the Saale city.

Polyphonic Soundscapes: The Anniversary Program

For their jubilee concert, the Octavians present a multifaceted cross-section of their extensive repertoire. The hallmarks of the formation – an enormous dynamic range, intonational perfection, and stylistic versatility – will be at the heart of this musical evening.

The program spans a wide arc from sophisticated Renaissance and Baroque music to romantic choral works, modern pop arrangements, humorous 1920s chansons, and contemporary jazz. In addition to beloved classics that have accompanied the ensemble since their early days, visitors can look forward to new arrangements and personal anecdotes from two decades of intense stage life. The vocal harmony and the unmistakable joy of making music together promise a listening experience of the highest caliber.

A Homecoming at the Historic Volkshaus Jena

For this milestone birthday, the Volkshaus Jena provides the perfect setting. The historic building on Carl-Zeiß-Platz boasts outstanding acoustics that optimally showcase the fine nuances and purity of a cappella singing. The atmosphere of the venue underscores the festive occasion and offers both long-time fans and newcomers the best conditions for an unforgettable sonic experience.

Events of this magnitude reflect the vibrant cultural life shaped by actors and institutions such as JenaKultur. For the Jena audience, the performance of these local heroes is a fixed highlight of the autumn cultural calendar.

A Musical Highlight of the Cultural Autumn

The Octavians’ anniversary concert is much more than a regular concert evening: it is a tribute to twenty years of vocal art from Jena that has gained international recognition from Thuringia. Anyone who appreciates virtuoso voices, subtle wit, and a stylistically diverse concert experience should not miss this performance at the Volkshaus.
