Octavians Live in Jena: Christmas Concert at Friedenskirche

The Jena-based vocal ensemble Octavians invites you to their festive Christmas concert, “Endlich Weihnachten” (Finally Christmas), at the Friedenskirche on Saturday, December 12, 2026. The audience can look forward to a high-caliber a cappella experience featuring both traditional and modern Christmas carols.

A Traditional Festive Concert During Advent

As the days grow shorter and festive anticipation fills the city, the annual Christmas performance by the Octavians has become a cherished ritual for many music lovers. The ensemble, which emerged from the renowned boys’ choir of the Jenaer Philharmonie, has spent over two decades establishing itself at the forefront of the German vocal scene. With sophisticated intonation, captivating harmony, and palpable joy in performance, these vocal artists take their listeners on a melodic journey through the pre-Christmas season.

As demonstrated in previous performances—such as the grand Octavians Anniversary Concert—the ensemble showcases an enormous stylistic range. From reverent sacred works of the Renaissance and Romantic periods to clever vocal arrangements of modern Christmas classics, the octet covers a broad repertoire that connects generations.

The Program: Contemplative Sounds and Vocal Brilliance

Under the title “Endlich Weihnachten,” the group presents a repertoire that conveys both contemplation and cheerful lightness. The focus lies on well-known German Christmas carols, which shine in a new light through tailor-made arrangements, as well as international hymns and swinging melodies from the Anglo-American tradition. Without any instruments, supported solely by the expressive power of the human voice, the singers unfold a full orchestral soundscape with fine dynamic nuances.

Unique Atmosphere at the Friedenskirche Jena

The Friedenskirche in Jena provides the perfect setting for this vocal concert. The historic Baroque church, one of the oldest intact sacred buildings in the city, is characterized by a warm, resonant acoustic that brings a cappella ensembles to their best advantage. The intimate atmosphere of the candlelit nave and the sonic resonance of the galleries create the ideal conditions for an atmospheric Advent evening in the heart of Jena.

A Musical Highlight of the Jena Winter Season

For culture enthusiasts from Jena and the entire Thuringia region, this concert is a wonderful opportunity to escape the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle for two hours. The blend of outstanding vocal artistry, local connection, and family warmth makes this evening a must-attend event of the season. Tickets are available for 20 euros in advance as well as at selected ticket outlets.
