Jena/Brovary (13.02.2026) – In times of ongoing crises, it is often the direct municipal connections that enable fast and unbureaucratic help. A visible sign of this solidarity has now reached the Ukrainian city of Brovary. As confirmed this Friday, a joint aid transport, organized by the partner cities of Jena and Erlangen, has safely arrived at its destination.

Medical Aid for the Central Clinic

The focus of this delivery was on medical care, a sector that remains under enormous pressure in Ukraine. Specifically, the transport included rehab beds and nightstands intended for the central clinic in Brovary. The equipment is meant to help improve patient care on-site and relieve the medical staff.

The reaction from the partner city was not long in coming. Brovary’s Mayor Igor Sapozhko confirmed the receipt of the goods and published photos of the delivery on Facebook. He expressed his gratitude to the German partner municipalities for the ongoing support and the lived solidarity. For Jena, this is another building block in the relationship with its Ukrainian partner city, which has been intensively cultivated for years.

Strong Partners: The Trilateral Cooperation and the GIZ

The fact that this transport was made possible is thanks to a special constellation: the trilateral partnership between Jena, Erlangen, and Brovary. This cooperation allows the German cities to pool resources and make logistics chains more efficient. Instead of each municipality acting individually, Jena and Erlangen organized the onward transport of the goods together, which not only saves costs but also facilitates coordination with the Ukrainian side.

Financially and organizationally, the project is heavily supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The aid packages are part of the program “Improving Civil Protection and Reconstruction in Municipal Partnerships with Ukraine.” This program aims to make Ukrainian municipalities more resilient and secure public services. Within the framework of this initiative, both Jena and Erlangen are each receiving a package of rehab equipment as well as a minibus specially equipped with a wheelchair ramp to be passed on to Brovary.

Outlook: Next Deliveries Already Scheduled

The arrival of today’s transport does not mark the end of the relief action. Logistics for the coming weeks are already in full swing. A second part of the rehab equipment is expected to be delivered in March and will likewise be sent on its way to Brovary.

Upgrades are also being made in the area of mobility: the announced minibuses with wheelchair ramps are expected to arrive in Jena first in the coming weeks. After the appropriate preparation and logistical planning, these vehicles will also begin their journey to Ukraine to ensure the mobility of persons with disabilities there. The city of Jena thus proves once again that the solidarity partnership with Brovary is not an empty phrase, but consists of concrete, life-improving measures.

We will stay on top of this topic and report as soon as the next aid supplies begin their journey.
