Jena (09.02.2026) – Wanderlust is back in season in Jena. When the February days are still gray and short, the city on the Saale offers a welcome escape to the most remote corners of our planet. The Abenteuertage Jena are entering their third round and promise to present the most diverse program since the series began. From Friday, February 20, to Sunday, February 22, the Kulturkirche Löbstedt will transform into a meeting point for globetrotters, outdoor enthusiasts, and dreamers.
Kick-off in the Eternal Ice: Cycling through Siberia
The three-day festival kicks off on Friday with a man who seeks the extreme and foregoes all comfort. The Berlin adventurer Richard Löwenherz is well-known in the scene for his “fatbike” tours in regions that others would only traverse in heavy polar gear and protected vehicles.
His presentation takes the Jena audience to Siberia – in the dead of winter. Löwenherz reports on his journey across frozen ice tracks, so-called Zimniks, and the challenges that both man and material must overcome in freezing temperatures. His descriptions of camping in the snow, far from any civilization, are particularly impressive. For the visitors in the heated Kulturkirche Löbstedt, this report is likely to provide pleasant goosebumps while inspiring respect for the traveler’s physical and mental performance.
Ten Years on the Road: A World Trip starting at Eichplatz
A special highlight with a strong local connection is on Saturday’s agenda. Among the five adventurers presenting their short lectures that day is Rico Reißmann. His story is closely linked to Jena: in 2015, he started directly from Jena’s Eichplatz on an adventure whose dimensions were hard to foresee at the time.
Now, more than a decade later, Reißmann is back with impressive figures: he covered 33,000 kilometers and circumnavigated the globe. His return and the stories he gathered during these ten years form the emotional core of Saturday’s program. It is the classic hero’s journey – the departure from a familiar home into the unknown and the return as a changed person – that makes Reißmann’s presentation so relatable for the Jena audience.
Culture and Inspiration in Löbstedt
With the third edition of the Abenteuertage, the Kulturkirche Löbstedt continues to establish itself as an important venue for formats beyond traditional concerts or theatrical performances. Live reports and multivision shows have enjoyed growing popularity for years. They offer a blend of journalistic documentation, photographic art, and personal storytelling.
A total of ten presentations will be shown over the weekend. In addition to extreme tours, the focus is often on encountering foreign cultures and the beauty of nature that needs to be preserved. For the people of Jena, the weekend provides an opportunity to gather inspiration for their own travels or simply to escape everyday life for a few hours.
Anyone interested in the wider world should mark this weekend in their calendar. The combination of international extreme adventurers and stories that began right on the doorstep is what makes this third edition so appealing.
