Jena. Siren alarms on Monday noon in the popular Jena district of Wenigenjena: The professional fire department had to respond to a serious apartment fire which, according to initial estimates, caused significant property damage.
Fire broke out in the kitchen
According to current police findings, the incident began in the kitchen area of the affected apartment. Exactly how the fire started is currently the subject of police investigations. Statistically, kitchen fires are among the most common causes of fire department deployments in private households, often triggered by technical defects in electrical appliances or objects forgotten on the stove.
The alerted Jena professional fire department was quickly on-site and able to fully extinguish the fire. Nevertheless, the blaze had already done severe damage. Not only the flames themselves, but especially the heavy smoke development, ensured that the apartment was massively damaged.
Good luck in misfortune: Animal rescue
Fortunately, no people were in the premises at the time the fire broke out. However, there was a critical situation for one resident: a cat was trapped in the smoke-filled apartment. Firefighters were able to recover the animal and took it to a veterinarian as a precaution to be examined for possible smoke inhalation.
High property damage and uninhabitability
Despite the rapid intervention of emergency services, the consequences for the residents are grave. Authorities have classified the apartment as currently uninhabitable. Property damage is estimated at over 50,000 Euro. The criminal police have taken up investigations into the exact cause of the fire to determine whether a technical defect or negligence was involved.
